Pretty run down. (It is Free Though) Almost all the tables were broken. The fire pits were broken. Camp sites were overgrown or just couldn't be found. On the plus side there was only one other camper there the whole weekend. Very primitive, but still enjoyable. We stayed at 1 of the three sites that everything was mostly still intact

Low Gap Campground is an awesome Free non-commercial camping area surrounded by several trail crossings, including The Holston Mountain Trail which traverses the entire ridge until it terminates into The Appalachian Trail at Cross Mountain.

Very beautiful area. Nice views. People have been a little rough on the picnic tables there. But it was nice. I was there in November 2016, I stayed alone in the camping area but hunters were above and below me throughout the day. I had really good phone reception. It's about 7 miles up panhandle road. It's very bumpy most of the way and there are some sharp turns. I wouldn't do this in a big rig.
